Part of the inspiration for the Filter was a bike that Ed built up a while back. While many customers were choosing to use the Edit as their 'big bike', Ed was looking for something a bit more trail friendly, but keeping the radness of the Edit intact. The result was built around a combination of Cane Creek's Helm fork and DBcoil IL rear shock. It was good. So good in fact that we decided to develop a trail bike off the back of it. In a way, this bike is the essence of what the Filter is meant to be.
So here we are with the Filter launch edition. The all-new Filter frame with 27.5" wheels, 135mm of rear wheel travel and a 150mm fork. It uses the latest Helm MkII fork and the newly released DBcoil IL Trunnion rear shock. We've paired that up with a GX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain and G2 RSC 4-pot brakes. The wheels are the Proterra Tough i30s from WTB running Michelin Wild AM tyres front and rear.
Yes it's a trail bike. But it's engineered like an all-mountain bike. And the build - it's as capable as you are. We don't do categories and even if we did, we wouldn't know which one to put this bike in. But what we can say is that it's a heap of fun to ride.
Only ten of these limited editions will be available, but it's also possible to buy the Filter frame with the DBcoil IL rear shock.
The Cane Creek DBcoil IL rear shock is 4-way adjustable and features a Climb Switch. With the VALT lightweight steel spring it weighs in at only a little more than most modern air shocks but you get the adjustability of a double-barrel shock and the plushness of a coil. It's a great option for a trail bike like this.
The Filter Ltd Edition is available in our new matte grey powder-coated finish and of course, our trademark raw finish. Both have a matte black powder-coated rear end. As usual, you can choose from various decal colours - but this one looks great with black.
The Cane Creek Helm MkII fork is a great accompaniment to the rear shock. We decided to spec air up front to keep the weight under control. Overall the Helm is a fairly aggressive option for a bike like this but it provides a good level of confidence-inspiring stiffness up front, excellent adjustability and it looks the business.
