We've always said we would do custom builds for people. For us it's a big part of mountain biking that off-the-shelf bikes just don't cater for. Just after we launched the Edit we were contacted by Don, who was stoked on the whole idea behind Airdrop Bikes. Don was to become one of our first customers. This is his bike.
Don has been into bikes since the early '90s, and he's got a collection to prove it. From a JMC style stumpy through the full carbon K2 Proflex, right up to Enigma titanium bikes, Don's had them all... and he's still got most of them. He was after a modern mountain bike and the idea of the Edit was right up his street. Something simple but effective; easy to maintain and loads of fun to ride. We also think the raw finish has a bit of retro appeal. Don went for the black decals which sit nicely with the black finishing kit from Joystick.
Don took a stock Edit Trail out for a test ride, and loved the geometry straight away. The Trail build has a SRAM GX 1x11 drivetrain, which we've found to be flawless in all conditions. Brakes are Guide R which offer loads of power and modulation, and finishing kit is Joystick. We normally build the Trail with a Rockshox Monarch RT3 shock and Yari RC forks, but Don wanted to upgrade, and since all our bikes are built to order that was easy.
After looking at a few options, we settled on the Monarch Plus RC3 rear shock and the peerless Pike RCT3 Solo Air fork.
After developing this bike for 18 months, it's great to see them going out to customers and hitting the trails. And even if we do say so ourselves, we think they're looking good. If you're interested in an Edit custom build, why not contact us to discuss what we can do for you. You can also check out our Custom Builds page for some inspiration.
