Our limited edition series is a way for us to try out cool ideas and build bikes in interesting new ways. As a small brand we can't always do full production runs but what we can do is put together sick bikes in small batches like this. And for a few lucky customers, there's an opportunity to get a custom built bike that's both rare and unique.
The Bomber Ltd Edition bike is built around the Marzocchi Bomber DJ fork, Reverse BlackOne DJ wheels and Burgtec finishing kit, all colour coded and with some nice little touches. We're only going to build 10 of these.
The Fade Bomber Ltd Edition is out now.
£1799
We put together a quick build video so you can share the satisfaction if every part coming together. As with all Airdrop bikes, the Fade Bomber ltd editions will be built in our Sheffield workshop.
The Marzocchi Bomber DJ is just about as iconic as dirt-jump forks can get, especially if you were around the scene in the '90s. But unlike those original forks, the new versions have the performance to match to the looks. With 36mm stanchions, tapered steerer, 20mm bolt-through axle and a Fox GRIP damper, the Bomber DJ are legit.
For this limited edition, we've specced the matte black forks and paired that with the matte black powder coated frame finish we developed specially for the Fade. The fork's gloss white decals are matched up to gloss white decals on the frame. There are nice little touches of white on all the Burgtec logos.
That gold top-cap on the forks is so lush.
We chose the Maxxis DTH for this bike, not least because it's such a good tyre in all conditions. But also those yellow logos... they match up so nicely with the foks top cap and the Burgtec logos on the bars and saddle. We added a bling gold 1/2 link chain to keep things matchey.
We put a lot of emphasis on keeping things as clean as possible with the Fade. Singlespeed only and chain tensioners built into the dropouts. The brake hose guides are tucked underneat the toptube and are positioned centrally so you can run your brake UK or Euro style.
This is the first DJ build we've done with the new BlackOne singlespeed wheelset from Reverse. We've been testing them for a while and we've been impressed. For a modern mtb style dirt jump bike like the Fade, they're a good choice. The rims have a 30mm internal width which is wider than traditional DJ rims but they're just as strong, and that extra width works so well on higher volume tyres like the DTH.
Bling bling. Gusset Slink 1/2 link chain in gold. The ratio is our preferred 11-28 gear, using our own Airdrop 28t CNC chainring on Descendant 170mm cranks.
When we build a bike like this, I always take time to enjoy shooting nice photography. The creative side of things has always been important to me and it's the work that I enjoy the most. The only problem with that is that I've now got 100 shots of this bike and I can only share about 10 of them... So you can't blame me for posting up one last shot. These were taken in our local skatepark.
